Seattle starter Felix Hernandez was so good Saturday night, it took an error by his Gold Glove right fielder for the Dodgers just to score a run.
And that was all they got in a 5-1 loss to the Mariners, as Hernandez allowed four hits over eight frames and Ken Griffey Jr. delivered the crushing blow, a two-run homer off Eric Milton, who was making his first start for the Dodgers since June 5.
Seattle scored in the second inning off Milton on a single by Jose Lopez and double by former Dodger prospect Franklin Gutierrez. The Mariners added three runs in the third on a single by Ichiro Suzuki, a triple by Russell Branyan and Griffey's home run.
It took a perfect hit-and-run single by Orlando Hudson and an Ichiro error for the Dodgers to score in the third inning off Hernandez. Ichiro, the eight-time Gold Glove right fielder, appeared to lose Casey Blake's liner in the lights, dropping to his knees as the ball struck his leg and Rafael Furcal scored.
Branyan tacked on a solo homer in the top of the ninth. |
