Suspended outfielder Manny Ramirez passed the first part of his rehab stint, appearing in two games for the Triple-A Albuquerque Isotopes.
And now with his scheduled return to the Dodgers on July 3 against the San Diego Padres just a week away, Ramirez will suit up for the club's Class A affiliate, the San Bernardino Inland Empire 66ers.
"He got through it," Dodgers manager Joe Torre said. "He didn't get hurt. We banged it yesterday because of the weather. That was a team decision there because you certainly don't want to take a chance."
Ramirez is scheduled to play against the Lake Elsinore Storm on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. PT and then appear in three games for Inland Empire next against the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes.
"He'll play the next, I'm assuming, five days or four days and be ready for us next weekend," Torre said.
Torre said that Ramirez came to Dodger Stadium on Friday morning for a "light workout."
While Ramirez has had only four at-bats so far in his Minor League assignment, Torre said that he isn't interested in the numbers.
"I'm not concerned about statistics," Torre said. "I'm more interested in having him compete in some games, that's more important than anything else."
Torre also said that he hasn't decided if Ramirez will bat No. 3 or No. 4 in the order once he returns to the Dodgers. |
