DODGERLIFE, a year-round series of programs and events in which fans can personalize their Dodgers experience to match their lifestyle, will host its inaugural Fishing Adventure on Thursday, July 23. Dodger pitcher Brent Leach and sport fishing TV personality Dan Hernandez will host the trip, which will depart from the Long Beach Pier at 10:00 a.m.
"I had such a great time with the kids on the first fishing trip that I wanted to share the experience with another group of Dodger fans," said Leach, who hosted the Dodgers Dream Foundation and DodgersWIN (Women's Initiatives Network) fishing trip earlier this month. "I hope to make this trip memorable for everyone."
Fans who purchase tickets for the Fishing Adventure, which cost $200, will enjoy a four-hour fishing excursion on the 76-foot fishing charter "Native Sun," the chance to fish with Leach, fishing instruction by Hernandez, and complimentary lunch. For an upgrade of $35, the fishing package also includes a fishing license, fishing rod rental, and a tackle pack. The excursion will out of Long Beach Berth 55.
Brent Leach, along with his wife Sara, treated 34 children from the Long Beach Boys & Girls Club, School on Wheels, and San Miguel Elementary - Puma Anglers to a similar fishing excursion earlier this season as part of the DDF and DodgersWIN fishing trip. During the Winter Development Program, Leach also participated in a clinic for local youth at the Dodgers Dreamfield at Algin Sutton Recreation Center and visited New Designs Charter School in South L.A.
Hernandez hosts a weekly television program called "Sport Fishing with Dan Hernandez" and has written several fishing books and produced several how-to fishing DVDs. In 2000, Hernandez founded the Daniel Hernandez Youth Foundation, which uses fishing as a tool to help build kids' self esteem and confidence. He has partnered with the Dodgers and the Dodgers Dream Foundation to host community fishing trips for the past three seasons.
DODGERLIFE was created this season to help fans become closer to the team outside of the baseball diamond. As part of the lifestyle program, fans have the opportunity to take batting practice on the field at Dodger Stadium, meet current and former Dodgers, participate in a Dodger Fantasy Camp, and take trips to see the team on the road. Movie nights, sleepovers at the stadium, day camps for kids, and other special events for fans of all ages are also scheduled throughout the year as part of the DODGERLIFE experience. |
