With Lakers star Kobe Bryant looking on from the front row, Clayton Kershaw handcufed the Angels for seven innings Sunday while Juan Pierre had a pair of RBI doubles and James Loney a two-run homer in a 5-3 Dodgers win.
Kershaw struck out five and overcame four walks and four hits to raise his record to 4-5.
It took five innings for the Dodgers to get to John Lackey. Kemp led off the fifth with a single past Lackey's ear, was bunted to second by Brad Ausmus and was doubled home by Pierre.
The bottom of the fifth started with Kershaw throwing two balls to Sean Rodriguez, then the game was interrupted by a fan who ran onto the field. When play resumed, Kershaw walked Rodriguez, and Erick Aybar followed with a sacrifice bunt that Kershaw threw into center field trying for Rodriguez at second. Kershaw wild pitched the runners to second and third and loaded the bases by walking Chone Figgins. But he got a 1-2-3 double-play comebacker from Bobby Abreu and popped up Torii Hunter to complete his escape act.
The same offensive trio combined again for the Dodgers in the seventh inning as Kemp bunted for a single, was bunted to second by Ausmus and was doubled home by Pierre, who was out trying for third.
Loney slugged his homer in the eighth inning, although umpires used instant replay to verify second-base ump Bob Davidson's initial call.
The Angels scored in the eighth on a Casey Blake throwing error, but Jonathan Broxton pitched out of a bases-loaded jam by striking out Aybar. |
